Prime HD completes Smithsonian's Exhibit:
June 2009: Prime HD makes the unique triple-High Definition video and display for the Smithsonian's affiliate in MD; museum calls it "awesome", "dazzling", and "outstanding".
Prime HD provided everything from the concept to pre-production, hardware procurement, video and audio production, still photography, post, and video installation of this world-class video installation. Also an original Flash Game and a video kiosk were made by Prime HD.
Proprietary triple-HD-resolution player was designed and manufactured for this specific task by Alex Raskin, who also wrote custom software for it. The custom player provides synchronous HD video output to three huge 65" high definition screens simultaneously, resulting in the extremely high quality images at the larger-than-life composite display size of 10ft wide x 5ft tall. Underscoring three-dimensionality of the content, Prime HD designed the display to cascade on three different levels. This very unique approach paid off, providing striking yet very pleasant viewing experience.
To meet somewhat challenging requirements to the sound (had to be very legible but relatively low volume, yet cover a large room), Prime HD utilized and calibrated a high-end Yamaha sound processor system with computer-controlled array of 40 "beam driver" speakers and two woofers. The resulting sound was perfect for the purpose.
The large project was finished exactly on-time and on-budget. In fact, Prime HD over-delivered: the Game has three times more material, the kiosk has 50% more video than originally planned, and the Video Wall resolution is in beautiful 3xHD (triple-HD) instead of the regular HD - all without any increase in cost for the client! Our hardware procurement choices allowed the museum to save money, big time - specifically, hardware was delivered at just 49% of the planned cost, without any sacrifice in quality!
Local firm Quatrefoil Inc (known as one of the Microsoft partners) was contracted and closely worked with, to make custom cabinetry and physical installation of the video monitors - which was done with excellence.
Prime HD employed celebrity talent from NPR, as well as our own brilliant PrimeHD.com members (talent and crew), in the production of this revolutionary exhibit.
